Overview

No.1 Bagan Hailam Seafood 海南村海鲜烧烤 stands out as a vibrant seafood jewel nestled along the serene riverside of Jalan Bagan Hailam, within the industrial area of Selat Klang Utara, Pelabuhan Klang. This open-air restaurant offers an authentic experience where fresh ocean bounty meets smoky, flavorful grilling traditions, creating a harmonious setting for seafood enthusiasts and families alike.

The star attraction here is undoubtedly the BBQ crab. Prepared with minimal seasoning, it allows the natural sweetness of the crab meat to shine through, enhanced by a subtle smoky char from the grill. This dish is perfectly complemented by other house specialties like the steamed red snapper and the intriguing Kam Heong crab, both of which showcase a delicate balance of freshness and local spices. Dining by the river’s gentle breeze adds an extra layer of pleasure, turning every meal into a laid-back celebration of coastal flavors.

Beyond the crabs, the menu extends to a variety of dishes that reflect the local Hainanese and Teochew culinary influences. The crispy hainanese tofu is a delightful contrast in texture, paired well with the rich, buttery fried crab. The Thai-style deep-fried fish and Grilled Lamb Chops provide a savory escape for those seeking alternatives, with the mint sauce on the lamb adding a refreshing twist. Vegetables like stir-fried kangkung and classic Hailam noodles bring balance to the robust seafood offerings.

The space itself embraces a casual, rustic charm — perfect for large groups and family gatherings looking to soak in the natural surroundings while indulging in hearty seafood fare. It is especially favored by customers who appreciate the blend of traditional cooking with fresh produce, set against a calm riverside backdrop.

While the overall quality of the food is well-received, some guests note that a few dishes, such as the lala mihun and certain clam preparations, could benefit from more robust seasoning to elevate the depth of flavor. Nonetheless, the generous portions and freshness of the seafood typically leave diners satisfied and eager to return.

In summary, No.1 Bagan Hailam Seafood offers more than just a meal—it provides an immersive coastal dining experience, centered on expertly grilled seafood and local specialties. Its location, atmosphere, and family-friendly appeal make it a must-visit spot for those craving authentic Malaysian seafood cooked with heart and heritage.

Good service, but the food quality is just average. We had quite a few dishes and none of them stood out. Price was around RM750 for 11 adults 2 kids.

This is a good place for big crab. Grilled perfectly and taste juicy and fresh. Another must try is the hainanese taufu which is crispy and tasty. Their hainanese mee is tasty although it doesn’t look nice. Do also try their tasty fried squid! Price is

Superb food with amazing view. The sweet and sour crab and the grilled lamb were shockingly delicious. The crab was so fresh that it’s already so sweet on itself. The lamb dipped into the mint sauce was very addictive. The Hailam noodles was a very unique dish and it’s worth the try! The lala mihun was the only average dish we had.

Having seafood by the river with a slight gentle breeze makes eating outdoors a pleasant experience. It has been many years since we have been here to have seafood. A nice lady staff took our order. We had their signature BBQ large crabs which were a favourite. Just with minimal seasonings, the smoky flavour added that extra oomphhh to the meaty crab- they were fresh and full of flesh. The crab price was on the higher side but everyone enjoyed the dish which made it worth while. Also ordered were the clams in superior stock, sweet & sour pork, salted egg mantis prawns, stir fried kangkung, fu yong & teochew style steamed fish. All dishes were good- with only one small disappointment; the clam lacked the flavour shiao xing wine which would hv made the stock even more flavourful. Otherwise it was a lovely evening to be having seafood with family by the river
